Burlesque

Last night I went to my first Burlesque class with my room mate. It was really fun but a little bit embarrassing. We learnt how to walk and a few dance moves and also how to peel off a glove.

We had to get into groups and make up a routine and then perform it for the class. I felt really shy so next week I am going to have a few drinks before I go!

Shark Attack

A few days ago there was a shark attack in Western Australia less than an hour away from where I live. A man was snorkeling with his son when a shark attacked him. They haven't found his body yet.

On the other side of Australia there was a sighting of a great white shark. The shark circled some men that had been fishing and kayaking in the ocean. It bumped one man off his kayak into the water. Some other men on a nearby boat caught it on video. In the video (url below)you can hear one man yell out "how are your undies?" He thought the man must have been so scared he pooed himself!

New Years Eve

Today is 23 degrees and tomorrow is going to be just as hot for New Years Eve. I think I might go down the beach. I have to work tomorrow but new years day is a public holiday (national holiday).

Lots of people go to parties or have bbqs and watch the fireworks. I can't believe it is already 2009 time goes by so fast!

Christmas

For Christmas I went on a trip down south to Busselton. It is about 2 and 1/2 hours south of Perth. We stayed with some friends. I went to the beach everyday, played lawn bowls and board games and drank and ate way too much.

There were lots of people staying in the house so everyday there was something fun to do. The house is on a little farm and there is a curio shop (It is short for curiosity shop) and is full of coloured glass.

The weather was nice as it wasn't too hot. Usually Christmas day is very hot, sometimes more than 40 degrees.

We drove back to Perth yesterday and there was lots of traffic on the road. I am so tired today, I didn't want to wake up this morning.

Cards

Last night I went over to my sister's house for dinner. She cooked chicken pot pie and we read gossip magazines together. I made rice cakes wrapped in seaweed for my brother and sister to try. My sister really liked it but my brother hated it! He pulled funny faces.

After dinner we played card games. The teams were boys against girls. My sister and I lost to her boyfriend and our brother. I'm tired today because I stayd up too late.

The Beach

Yesterday it was 38 degrees celcius so I went to the beach. I couldn't stay inside my room because it was too hot and I don't have an airconditioner. There were lots of people and dogs at the beach.

When I cam home I had a shower because I was covered in sand! Then I had to vacum my car.

In the evening my friend and I bought fish and chips and watched the sun go down. It was beautiful.

Fashion Parade

Last Sunday my friend and I went to a fashion parade at the city hall. It was to promote a new designer and also a new fashion magazine. We drank champagne and talked to lots of people. All of the clothes were really beautiful and different.

Afterwards I went back to my friend's house and she made me noodles. We chatted to her roommate and his girlfriend. They are both really nice people. He is Australian and she is Thai.

Iron Man

Last weekend there was an Iron man competition and three of our friends competed. It took about 11 hours for them to complete the race which included a swim, ride and run. One of them had to pull out of the race because he felt too weak. It was fun to watch but some people got really sunburned.

Christmas Tree

When I went to my sister's house on Monday we put up the Christmas tree together. In Australia most people don't have a proper tree, they have a plastic one that they can pack away and use again. We don't have the right kind of weather for a real tree.

After we had put all of the decorations and lights on it, it looked really good. My sister's cat Tiger started pulling all of the decorations off straight away though. He is kind of naughty! He likes to sit under the tree in the dark.

Weather

The weather today is really unusual for this season. It is overcast but humid outside. It is always cold inside my building though. I can't wait to go home, work is so boring!

I have an appointment straight after work, then I can go home and relax. I am going to drink some wine with my friend and read a book.

New Puppy

On Saturday I went to visit my friend and see her new puppy. The puppy's name is Pikyla and she is so cute. She needed a bath though because her face was a bit grubby. She has lots of energy and ran around and around and bit me on the ankles.

After that I went to visit my sister and her boyfriend. When I got to their house I noticed a hole in the floor. When I asked my sister what had happened she said that Greg (her boyfriend) had fallen through floor. They have beautiful old polished floor boards in their house but I guess one of them must have gotten a bit weak over time. Poor Greg!

Slept in

This morning I overslept and was almost late for work. I usually wake up at 6.30 but I slept through my alarm clock (didn't hear it) and woke up at 7.20. I only had 20 minutes to get ready so I had to come to work with wet hair. I'm so sleepy.

Language Exchange

Yesterday I had my first language exchange. We met at a cafe in the city and talked for an hour and a half. I was a bit shy at first but it was good. He is from Tochige but lived in Tokyo. He is studying english at Tafe in Perth for one year.

60th Birthday Party

A few weeks ago it was my Dad's 60th Birthday. We had a fancy dress party for him and the theme was 70's disco inferno. Everyone looked really good. My Dad wore an afro wig and platform shoes and my brother wore really tight pink pants!

Check out the photos.

Friday - yay

I'm happy because it's Friday today! I had a boring meeting at work this morning I had to hide my yawn behind my notebook. I studied until late last night so had trouble waking up.

My housemate's cat pooed on the carpet in the night...ew gross! I hope she cleans it up asap!

Japanese Lesson

Last night I had a lesson with my Japanese teacher. Sometimes I feel really frustrated because I don't think my Japanese is improving. Anna-sensei said I need to study more often! I'm tired today!

Chilli Chicken

My housemate made chilli chicken for dinner last night. It was really spicy. Afterwards my lips were burning and went bright red. I think I must have looked quite funny.

Backyard

This weekend I am helping my sister and her boyfriend finish their backyard. We have to get it ready for my Dad's birthday party next weekend. It has taken several weeks to get it read. We are building a patio and have had to change the whole yard. I had to dig sand and lift bricks! It has not been fun! I got so dirty! Check out my dirty feet!

Bali

My friend and I just came back from 10 days holiday in Bali. We stayed at the Mercure Hotel in Kuta. The hotel was beautiful with a pool that overlooked the beach. We ate some really yummy, spicy food and drank Bintang beer. We also had a massage, manicure and pedicure at a salon near the beach and I had little flowers painted on my toenails. The weather was really hot and humid so we laid by the pool all day.

Father's Day

Yesterday was the state election so we had to go and vote. We went to the local elementary school to cast our votes. There were lots of people there so we had to wait in line to get our ballet papers.

Today was Father's Day so we went out to lunch at a restaurant opposite the beach. I had yummy oysters and a steak and an Asahi beer. After lunch we went for a walk and bought an icecream. I had macadamia nut icecream in a cup. On the way back to the car I accidentally dropped my spoon on the ground. My brother was really nice and gave me his.

It was a beautiful sunny, spring day but a little bit windy. I am so full from my lunch I can't move!

Mexican Food

I love Mexican food so tonight we made Enchiladas. Enchiladas are spicy meat and sauce inside a flour wrap. You can make them with all kinds of different things. The you put more sauce on them and put them in the oven.

This is Greg putting the cheese and sauce on them and then putting them in the hot oven....yum!!

Scones

On the weekend my sister and I made scones for morning tea. Scones are a really English food but Australians like them as well. Usually we have them with jam and cream but on this day we had them with honey. When you eat scones it is custom to have them with a cup of tea. These are my scones, I thought they turned out very well!

Water Closet

This morning I went to a cafe for breakfast and I saw this sign. It says "Water Closet this way." I thought this was interesting because some people might not know what a water closet is. A water closet is an old fashioned way of saying a toilet. Usually there would be a toilet and a small sink.

I wonder why they chose this sign?

Marisa's Birthday

On Saturday it was my best friend's Birthay. She turned 27. We went out to dinner at a seafood restaurant. I ate seafood and steak and drank wine and cocktails. This is a photo pf me drinking a Mohito. Before we went to dinner we had champagne and cupcakes at our house.

The next day on Sunday we went for lunch at a cafe near the beach. The weather was beautiful and much warmer than it usually is in August. There were lots of people swimming and laying on the sand. I got a little bit sunburned.

Ed & I

Last Sunday my friend Ed and I went and had lunch at an Italian restaurant. Then after lunch we went to a bar near the beach and had a beer. We have been friends for a few years. We met at our part time job when were at university. We worked at a really big bar called The Leederville.

Ed works on an oil rig in the ocean. I can only see him every three weeks when he comes home. Him and I both like scuba diving.

Crocodiles

My parents sent me these photos of their holiday. They are in the north west of Australia. They went to a crocodile park and saw salt water crocodiles. Salt water crocodiles are really dangerous and sometimes attack people.

They also saw fresh water crocodiles. These type of crocodiles are very lazy and not as dangerous. My mum had her photo taken very close to them. She is really brave!

Australian Outback

My parents have gone on a holiday around Australia in a caravan. They are in the north of Western Australia. They will travel for 2 years. They have gone fishing, crabbing, swimming and done lots of other activities. It is hot and humid in the north of Australia, even though it is winter time.

This link is to my parent's blog. It is really interesting. They are having lots of adventures.

Trent

Last weekend our friend Trent came over for dinner. He lives on the east coast and was in Perth on holiday. His nickname is Shuppy. He is a lawyer.

I asked him to answer some questions and introduce himself. He speaks very slowly so it is easy to understand his English.

Chocolate Cake

On the weekend I made a chocolate cake. It was rich and delicious. My sister and I stayed home on Saturday night and watched movies and ate the cake.

Then on Sunday we had lunch with her boyfriend's little brother and sister. They live in England and have really cute accents. They came over for a holiday for a few weeks. They are 1 and a half and 3 years old.

Cricket Grand Final

On Tuesday night I went to watch my friend in his cricket grand final. He plays indoor cricket. It is faster than normal cricket and much more exciting.

They play on fake grass inside a net. His team lost the game but the score was close. It was a really exciting game.

Tiger and Bec

My sister Rebecca (Bec) and her cat Tiger were sitting on the floor watching tv together and I took this video of them. Tiger always tries to run away when we cuddle him. He is a greedy cat and always wants more food.

I said, "Bec, What are you doing?" and she repiled "watching tv." Then I asked her "who is this?" and she said, "This is Tiger, say hello Tiger..."Hello"...He's not in a cuddly mood I'm afraid...are you?

Goodbye Dinner

Last night we had a special dinner for parents because they are leaving to go on a trip. It was kind of a surprise party because they didn't know that their friends would be there. I had 12 oysters with special sauce on them to start and then I had garlic prawns for my main meal. The food was really yummy.

The area where we sat is outside under the stars so it was really beautiful. It was a little bit cold because it's winter so the staff set up big heaters for us.

One of the photos looks funny because it looks like Robbie Williams (the singer) is in the photo with us!

Happy Hour

On Sunday afternoon some friends and I had a drink and some snacks at a bar. It is called The Raffles Hotel and is next to the Swan River. The sun was just about to go down as we arrived and it made the water look beautiful. My friend Marisa and I drank champagne and ate squid and chips.

Long weekend

This weekend is a long weekend because Monday is a public holiday (national holiday). The weather isn't very nice so I stayed inside and read a book today. I have a beautiful view from my window of an orange tree full of ripe oranges.

Later this evening I am going to go to the pub and have a drink with my friends.

Autumn Colours

A few days ago I was driving home and I saw this beautiful tree. It is autumn in Australia so lots of trees have orange and red leaves. The tree was in the front garden of someone's house so I asked them, "May I take a photo of your tree?" The contrast between the blue sky and the red leaves is amazing!

The Office

Today at work we had a special morning tea for my co-worker's birthday. We had chocolate cake and coffee in the staff room. This is a picture of me in my office pretending I'm thinking.

Marina

Today after work I went for a jog around the marina. There is a restaurant there overlooking the water. Sometimes on the weekends people get married there. Today the sky was a beautiful, blue colour and the clouds were really fluffy. It was a warm afternoon and there were some birds nearby.

Da Vinci Exhibition

In the afternoon on Sunday we went to see an exhibition of Leonardo da Vinci's inventions. He invented lots of useful things that we still use today. One of these inventions was the floaty. It's a blow up ring that children out around them at the beach so that they can float.

The exhibition was on the foreshore of the river in a special tent. After we went to the exhibition we went for a walk by the Swan river.

We walked up into the city and went to a restaurant for a snack. We had pizza and french fries.

Sunday Breakfast

This morning my friends and I had breakfast at a cafe.

The cafe we went to is called the sidewalk cafe. Some of the tables are out on the sidewalk and we sat out there under an umbrella. It was a warm, sunny morning and the cafe was pretty busy. I had bacon and eggs and a coffee with milk. It was really yummy.

Some of our friends are in a cycling club and they went for a bike ride before breakfast. These are my friends Clint, Greg and Shane in their cycling gear (clothes). The other picture is of my best friend Marisa and I enjoying an orange juice and coffee.

Saturday, May 10, 2008

On Friday night my family and I went to a 21st birthday party. In Australia your 21st birthday is really special and most people have a party. It is special because when you turn 21 you are considered an adult. It is tradition to give the person a key and for their parents to give a speech.

The person who was having the party is our family friend Claire. She was born in South Africa but moved to Australia with her family a few years ago. It is also tradition at a 21st party for relatives and family friends to be invited kind of like at weddings.

The party was held at a hotel in Fremantle. Fremantle is a port city south of Perth. It was a really nice party and we all had fun.

Kangaroos

My Dad likes to play golf on the weekends. He took these photos when he was at the golf course. In some places kangaroos live on the golf courses. There is a lot of space and grass for them to eat and they are safe from other animals. Generally they are quite tame and are not afraid of people. You can't pat them though because they will kick you. If a kangaroo gets angry or feels like it is in danger it will balance on it's tail and kick forward with it's powerful legs. Kangaroos also have sharp claws on their front paws. Sometimes the mother kangaroos will have a baby in their front pouch.

The Beach

Today is Saturday so I went to the beach with my sister. The water was a clear blue and the sand was white and warm. We ate lunch at a restaurant across the road and then went for a walk along the beach. There were lots of people laying in the sun and a few people were swimming. After we went for a walk we bought an ice-cream. I had a chocolate one and my sister had strawberry. This beach is my favorite I always go swimming there in summer.

Beautiful Sunset

Last night I watched the sun go down. The sunset was beautiful. The sky was orange and pink. It was a warm night with a soft breeze. I could hear frogs in the garden. I felt relaxed and calm. My family and I ate our dinner outside.
